Should You Like Your Own Facebook Posts?
The idea that we should like our own Facebook posts probably seems foreign to most of us. Clearly, its immodest, right?
It definitely makes you look uncool to like your own Facebook posts. Or it’s bragging, no?
Here’s Why:
The Facebook Matrix
So how do people see what they see on Facebook? What shows up on the top of their feed?
It has to do with the Facebook matrix – the algorithm that decides what you see first. I’ll simplify it as best I can.
You post something on Facebook. Facebook wants content on people’s feeds that will keep them coming back – it wants things people will react to. So it will show your post to a few of your friends, or the people who like your page. If they like it, Facebook will show it to more of your friends. The more people like it, the more people will see it. So when you like your own status, you increase the score of your post, and make it more likely that people will see it.
So when you’re looking at your Facebook stats, liking your own posts is a good way to increase the “reach” of your post (ie, the number of people who actually see it.)
The more people who like and share your post, the more people will actually see it.
Don’t put in your post that other people should like your status, or outright tell them to share it – the Facebook Matrix now penalizes that.
