About Mike
Mike Cooney is the owner and operator of Mike Cooney Creative, which creates websites and helps them plan their marketing strategy. He’s also the writer of the Grow Your Group Blog, which helps volunteers and non-profit professionals by providing them with useful content 3-5 times each week. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northeastern University.
While at Northeastern, he worked in the Sports Information Department. There he got athletes covered in such national media as Sports Illustrated and ESPN.
He spent ten years as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America, serving first in northern Maine at the Katahdin Area Council, and later with the Connecticut Rivers Council. In those capacities he recruited thousands of new youth into the program. He has raised millions of dollars, and set multiple fundraising records. He’s most proud of assisting thousands of volunteers in providing great program for kids. With the help of some great volunteers, he worked to found a new Cub Scout day camp in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. He doubled the revenue of a major fundraising dinner, building and leading a committee of dedicated community leaders.
Mike is a Rotarian, and is currently the Vice President-elect of the Norwich Rotary Club. He chairs their annual No Show Gala, which raises thousands of dollars each year to provide coats for children in the Norwich area.

Mike has been blessed to have some great teachers in many areas of life. He’s been a volunteer or professional in multiple nonprofits for over 20 years. In that time, he’s learned a thing or two. The Grow Your Group blog is his way of sharing that information with as many people as possible, and providing them with the support they so richly deserve.
